On 21 May, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency decided to extend the validity of its earlier decision on air traffic restrictions in the flight information region of Finland due to volcanic ash.
The restrictions are based on three-stage prognosis charts published by VAAC (Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre) i London. VAAC plans to change the charts so that a part of Zone 1(flights totally prohibited) would be marked as a grey zone.
EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) is preparing a Safety Information Bulletin, providing instructions to aviation authorities on what grounds flying in the grey zone can be allowed.
The Finnish Transport Safety Agency monitors the situation and will issue a new decision if necessary.
